What’s a butterfly pea?
This pretty blue flower, butterfly pea (Clitoria ternatea), has been a staple in India and Southeast Asia for centuries, sprinkling calm vibes wherever it goes. People have loved it for boosting memory, enhancing skin benefits, calming the mind, and simply making life a little better.
Thailand took it to the next level by creating tea that changes colour when you squeeze in some lemon! Now, it's gone global as a simple, caffeine-free, antioxidant-rich, happy little tea that's both healthy and magical.
5-6 dried butterfly pea flowers
1 cup hot water
Ice cubes (optional)
Mint leaves or lemongrass (optional)
Preparation Time: 10 min
Cooking Time: 5 min
Steep the butterfly pea flowers in 1 cup of hot water for about 5 minutes, until it turns a beautiful deep blue.
Add honey to the warm tea, stirring until fully dissolved.
In a saucepan, pour ½ cup of milk, and once it reaches a light boil, turn off the heat.
Let the boiled milk and the tea cool down to room temperature.
Add ice cubes to your glass. Pour in the cooled blue tea, then slowly add the cooled milk for a pretty layered effect.
Finish with a sprig of mint or a slice of lemongrass for that fresh, aromatic flair (Optional).
Tip: Whisk the milk for a frothy, creamy texture that adds a latte-like feel to your tea!
